Old Colorado City Real Estate History

Old Colorado City was founded in 1859 as part of the Pikes Peak Gold Rush that swept this part of the nation. The town was intended to feed, supply, and fuel the miners making their way to South Park and Blue River. This community was the first capital of the Territory of Colorado and one of the earliest settlements in the Pikes Peak region.

By the mid-1860s, Old Colorado City had shifted its focus from commerce to agriculture, and the region became populated by farmers and endless fields of crops. The discovery of gold in 1891 in Cripple Creek resulted in another boom for Old Colorado City. On today’s market, it is still possible to find houses that were constructed in this time period.

In 1917, Old Colorado City was incorporated into the larger city of Colorado Springs. More than a century later, this historic community is still proud of its gold rush roots and its important role in the development of the region. The Old Colorado History Center still boasts an impressive collection of historic artifacts, photos, and records. For those who love history, Old Colorado City is a fantastic place to settle.
